What is the GNRP? The GNRP is a free, 12-month program based on a rolling calendar. All new graduate RNs will sharpen their caregiving practices through the support of a preceptor/mentor, cognitive exercises and skill labs. This experience is designed to bridge the gap between academia and the workplace by providing a structured environment to develop knowledge of internal processes, skill, professionalism and to increase critical thinking. The program will help to reduce transition stress and increase job satisfaction.

Who is eligible for the nurse residency program? All new graduate registered nurses (one year or less work experience) who become employees of Southwest General will automatically be enrolled in the GNRP.

What are the benefits of the program?

  • Smooth transition to practice
  • Clinical support

  • Small-group, shared learning environment
  • Opportunity for professional development
  • Build stress management skills

Do I need to apply specifically for the GNRP before applying for a job at Southwest? No. Simply apply for an RN position. Those who are hired and meet eligibility criteria for the GNRP will automatically be enrolled during Clinical Orientation.
