Summary

Southwest General Health Center is seeking a diversified accountant with a strong focus in tax and/or cost accounting.  This position will be responsible for tax preparation and related items, cost accounting and general accounting functions including lease accounting and various other accounting and financial duties as assigned. 

 

A successful candidate will have the following qualities:

  • Strong general accounting skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team to perform month-end closing, including journal entry transactions, general ledger distribution and generating reports and reconciliations
  • Ability to coordinate with all levels of management to gather, analyze, summarize and prepare financial information
  • Person must be very organized, thorough and self-motivated
  • Ability to perform other duties as necessary to accomplish departmental and organization objectives
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to multi-task and excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in data capture and analysis using Excel tools
  • Possess a strong cost systems background with excellent analytical skills and a sound understanding of accounting principles
  • Work with ethics and integrity 

Job Description:

Tax Accounting

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of sales tax laws
  • Prepare, file and track monthly, quarterly and annual tax returns (for-profit and not-for-profit)
  • Provide reports, explanations and answers to management regarding all tax returns

Cost Accounting

  • Responsible for maintenance and documentation of the cost accounting system
  • Ensure proper costing of new procedures/supplies as they are established
  • Communicate with department managers to collect and analyze cost and RVU data
  • Review and reconcile standard and actual costs to ensure accuracy of data
  • Consistently maintain the integrity and reliability of the data in the cost accounting system

Month-End duties

  • Manage lease accounting requirements pursuant to ASC 842 for the organization’s leases, including both capital and operating leases
  • Prepare monthly adjusting calculations, prepare and post entries
  • Review and assess capital vs. operating treatment for all new leases
  • Understand lease compliance for all lease related payments, including base rent, operating expenses or CAM, real estate tax, insurance obligations, utilities, prepaid rents and security deposits. 

General Accounting Functions

  • Prepare and enter journal entry transactions and reconcile account balances
  • Prepare accurate work papers, schedules and reconciliations for audit purposes
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying and reviewing transactions
  • Assist with ad-hoc questions/projects as needed

 Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in accounting
  • Solid demonstrated understanding of accounting concepts, GAAP
  • Proficient use of software:  MS Office (Excel, Outlook and Word) experience required, Lawson and Strata experience desired
  • Prior accounting experience preferred; healthcare finance experience is a plus.
