PATIENT CARE ASSISTANT III POSITION FOR NURSING STUDENTS
Southwest General is a great place for soon-to-be RNs to build and solidify their skills. Friendly, upbeat staff provide excellent patient care while focusing on teamwork to help the units run smoothly.
We created the PCA III program to allow nursing students to get hospital experience with the flexibility and support they need to foster and jumpstart their career in healthcare. In addition to the standard Patient Care Assistant duties, PCA III's are able to utilize additional invasive and non-invasive skills.
Assists with and provides patient care under the direction of a professional registered nurse. Responsible for providing or assisting with transporting, maintaining a safe and clean environment, monitoring equipment function and responsible for documenting on appropriate forms. Performs technical skills as trained, such as invasive procedures (i.e., Foley insertion/removal, blood glucose monitoring) and non-invasive procedures (i.e., EKGs, SCD application, ted hose, simple non-sterile dressing changes and wound dressings). The PCA III must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to age groups according to specific chronological age, developmental age and/or psycho-social maturity. Job duties will expand as skills are learned and competencies documented by nursing school instructors and Clinical Manager or designee. PCA III's will also be provided scheduled time to shadow and observe a nurse during a shift as a learning experience.
High school diploma or GED required.
Enrollment in an accredited BSN or ADN nursing program and completion of one clinical rotation required.
Must provide a letter of recommendation from clinical instructor and a copy of most recent transcript.
Required length of experience:
Successful completion of one clinical rotation required.
Required licensure, certification, and/or registry:
BLS required, may obtain within 90 days of hire.
