DIABETES NURSE EDUCATOR

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Diabetes Nurse Educator is responsible for the daily operations of the Diabetic Education Department. Responsible for developing, coordinating, and marketing plans and/or programs for Diabetes education to the public. Oversees outpatient Diabetes Education and supervises paraprofessional team members in their delivery of Diabetes Education. Acts as a resource person for inpatient Diabetes Education. Works collaboratively with Nursing, Nutrition Services, and all other departments and/or disciplines involved in the process of Diabetes Education. Is a professional educator with specialized knowledge about Diabetes, who assesses outpatient educational needs and abilities, then plans and implements patient teaching, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with patient care standards and physician's orders. Acts as a liaison between physicians, patient and family, and collaborates with other health care members. Functions as a resource person for associates, patients, and community members in the area of outpatient Diabetes care and treatment. The Diabetes Nurse Educator must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to age groups according to specific chronological age, developmental age, and/or psycho-social maturity.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Graduate of accredited school of nursing.  

Required length of experience:
Two (2) years clinical med-surg nursing experience including care of patients with chronic diseases required.
One (1) year teaching/program development/management experience required.
Recent experience in Diabetes Education is also required.

Required licensure, certification, or registry:
Current licensure with the Ohio State Board of Nursing required.
Certified Diabetes Educator (
CDCES) certification preferred.
