POLICE OFFICER

Southwest General Police Officers provide police protection and enforcement of state and local laws, hospital policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

HOURS:
Full-time, night shifts. Example schedule - 

Week one (short week) 
          Sunday 12hr shift, Wednesday 12hr shift, Thursday 12hr shift (36hrs)
Week two (long week)
          Monday 12 hr shift, Tuesday 12hr shift, Friday 8hr shift, Saturday 12hr shift (44hrs) 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Performs proactive monitoring of and timely responses to potential/actual security threats.
  • Promotes police community relations through interaction with patients and visitors.
  • Working together with hospital departments to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Effective communication.
  • Interior patrol on foot assigned to monitoring nursing units.
  • Exterior patrols assigned to monitoring hospital properties; parking lot, parking garages, off campus properties.
  • Rounds through assigned hospital areas to provide officer presence.
  • Investigate all incidents and hazards on premises.
  • Exercises statutory and policing authority in making arrests and apprehensions, up to and including use of deadly force.
  • Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of police and security-related incidents.
  • Interviews witnesses, gathers facts and documents all investigative activities and incidents.
  • Prisoner booking, and transporting.
  • Must be able to render credible testimony in a court of law.
  • Administers initial first aid as appropriate; CPR, Narcan, AED.
  • Provides crosswalk and traffic control security/ awareness.
  • Provides support in the Dispatch Center.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

 

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Completion of Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) or prior OPOTA Peace Officer certification and the ability to refresh within one year of hire or OPOTA Certification before date of hire.

Required length of experience:
Preference to candidates that have law enforcement or security work related experience.
Must pass all the following: background check, panel interview and, polygraph test.
Must be able to work 12-hour shifts on days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

 

Required licensure, certification, and/or registry:
Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain eligibility of insurability to operate the organization's vehicles for emergency purposes.
Must be 21 years of age or older and be eligible for license to carry a firearm.
Must periodically qualify in use of firearms.
Completion of Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) or prior OPOTA Peace Officer certification and the ability to refresh within one year of hire or OPOTA Certification before date of hire.
